As Salaamu 'alaykum and peace to all,

Back to Basics - A motivational story about Health Remedy

I was watching Winnie the Pooh that day and was struck by the cute bear’s love and passion for something in his jar. The cartoon has reminded me something that I haven’t thought about for a long time. Can you guess?

Well, it is no other than his delicious and yummy honey!

I was introduced to honey since young. Honey was used and still used by my father in his daily diet and as his remedy for many illnesses.

You know what the Chinese Proverb says,

It is easy to get a thousand prescriptions but hard to get one single remedy.

He would search high and low for the original and unprocessed honey.

Once, his supply ran short and I offered to buy him ‘off-the-shelf’ honey but he jokingly said, ‘No, thanks dear. Those are not up to my standard!’ Well, I guess my standard is a little bit lower as I have no problem buying the ones I found on the supermarket’s shelf.

He is such a honey fan. He taught me a method on how to identify real, original and unprocessed honey. "Put one drop on your nails, if it sticks together, it is unadulterated," he told me once. That is only one of his methods.

I usually use honey for my upset tummy as advised by Prophet (may Allaah’s and blessings be upon him),

A man came to the Prophet (peace be upon him), because his brother had a stomach disorder. The Prophet said "Let him drink honey." The man returned a second time and again the Prophet , sallallahu aleyhe wa sallam (peace be upon him), responded again, "Let him drink honey." The man returned again, and said "I have done that." The Prophet then responded, "Allah has said the truth, but your brother's stomach has told a lie. Let him drink honey." He drank it and was cured. (Bukhari)

And alhamdulillaah, usually after taking one spoonful of honey and then continuously drinking honey mixed with water, my tummy pain would go away.

I wondered what is there in the honey that had made it a wonderful remedy. Then I remembered this verse,

And the lord inspired the bee, saying: Take your habitations in the mountains and in the trees and in what they erect. Then, eat of all fruits and follow the ways of your Lord made easy (for you)'. There comes forth from their bellies a drink of varying colour wherein is healing for men. Verily in this is indeed a sign for people who think." [Qur'an 16:68-69]

SubhanAllaah, it is amazing how clear this verse is and yet, I didn’t take heed. In the verse, it seems that the bees are ‘inspired’ by Allaah to find its habitation in the mountains and to eat from all sorts of fruits!

And from them, human are able to enjoy those tasty finger licking good honey. Truly miraculous… mashaAllaah

I also found from my readings that honey is a complex combination of enzymes, organic acids, esters, antibiotic agents, trace minerals and still some other unidentified components!

Of course that’s possible, right? Allaah has inspired the bees to eat from all kinds fruits! So, there would be all kinds of minerals in honey too.

It is also said that one pound of honey would contains 1.4 grams of protein, 23 milligrams of calcium, 73 milligrams of phosphorus, 4.1 milligrams of iron, 1 milligram of niacin and 16 milligrams of vitamin C.

It is a no wonder Prophet (pbuh) has endorsed honey as a remedy for all illness,

Honey is a remedy for every illness and the Quran is a remedy for all illnesses of the mind, therefore I [The Prophet] recommend to you both remedies the Quran and honey (Bukhari).

SubhanAllaah, it is something that Prophet (pbuh) has clearly recommended to us as a remedy for every illness that we have. Now, why don’t we take heed of his advice?

Hmm…

I also asked Dr. Abd Hamid Mat Sain, a surgeon on why he uses honey extensively to treat the wounds of all his patients.

His answer was simple,

Protein is important for our body as it is a major component that makes up our muscles, tissues and organs, thus, making it (protein) essential for any cell repair activities. And because honey contains protein (among others), it has help to effectively speed up the healing process in the wounds of my patients. Honey also contains enzymes that can destroy bacteria. And since the water content in honey is very low, it will cause the bacteria to die (bacteria thrives in water and without water it would die).*

* It is a natural process that water always moves from a higher water content area to the lower water content area. So, the water that exist in the bacteria (a high water content) would move into the honey (as it is low water content) resulting the bacteria to dry out. This process is called osmosis.

JazakAllaah khayran Dr. Abd Hamid for your explanation.

I found one video clip to demonstrate to us of how miraculous bees actually are, mashaAllaah. I hope that you are as impressed as I was, I hope that you felt as awed as I was and I hope and pray that our faith towards Him, the Al Mighty increases by watching this clip, inshaAllaah..

Let us all be the people who are able to look at His signs and think… Ameen…

Bee Dance Clip

SubhanAllaah! Allahu Akbar!

I could not believe my eyes looking at those bees ‘dancing’, could you? I believe this must be one of the signs Allaah was referring to in His verses regarding the bees.

Let me share with you a medical history written by an unknown person that would make us realize something significant,

A Short History of Medicine

1000 B.C. - "Here, eat this root."
1850 A.D. - "That root is poisonous, drink this potion."
1940 A.D. - "That potion is snake oil, swallow this pill."
1985 A.D. - "That pill is ineffective, take this antibiotic."
2000 A.D. - "That antibiotic is artificial. Here, eat this root."

Yup, back to the basics now, you agree?

Charles Simmons once said,

Sickness is the vengeance of nature for the violation of her laws.

Interesting statement, you agree? So, why don’t we cut to the chase and use what Allaah has given us naturally to correct whatever violations that we have made to our body and health by making honey a must in our daily diet.

Not only that we are going to get the health benefits, but, we are also following his sunnah and that means- we would be rewarded for it, inshaAllaah!

What do you say? Time to go back to the basics? Absolutely, don’t you think?
