Quotes from My Twitter Tweets and Facebook Updates - Monday 31st August 2009: Motivational and Inspirational Quotes

Zabrina A. Bakar ...

..... reminds herself of Prophet (SAW) words, ‘Whoever recites Yasin once Allah will record the reward of reciting the Qur’an ten times.’[Tirmidhi]

..... loves the words of Abu Bakr (r.a.) who once said: 'He who fears to weep, should learn to be kind to those who weep.' Question to self - Am I?

..... tries very much to say NO to Mega Sales remembering words of 'Umar (ra),'The less of the world, the freer you live.' Freedom!

..... lost her appetite reading Uthman(ra) words,"He who is fond of delicious food, let him bear in mind that ultimately he is to be food for worms"

..... knows she needs daily 'presciptions' to cure her heart when Ali (ra) said: 'The Word of God is the medicine of the heart.' Absolutely!

May this coming week of Ramadan brings us closer to our Lord, the Al Mighty, ameen...

Salaams and hugs

Friday Reflection: Secret Three from Life is an Open Secret- Ramadan Special: Motivational Story about Benefit of Fasting in the Hereafter

Bismillah

As Salaamu 'alaykum and peace to all,

Friday Reflection: Secret Three from Life is an Open Secret- Ramadan Special: Motivational Story about Benefit of Fasting in the Hereafter

Today, inshaAllah, I am going to share Secret Three from the 25 Secrets taken from my latest book: Life is an Open Secret- Ramadan Special.
Before that, let me share with you an anon person who once said,

“Life ends when you stop dreaming, hope ends when you stop believing, love ends when you stop caring, friendship ends when you stop sharing... so share this with whom ever you consider a friend.”

Yes, my brothers and sisters. Please share this story with whomever you consider a friend. But of course, share them without making any changes to it ya! :))

And here comes my Friday gift for you,inshaAllaah...

Secret Three : It Is Your Lawyer for Your Future

~ When you're dying of thirst it's too late to think about digging a well ~ Japanese Proverb

“You tell mum,” said the girl to her sister.

“No, you tell her. You are the one who wanted to buy it in the first place,” came the reply.

“You know what? Let us ask aunty to talk to mum. You know how mum always discusses with aunty about things. Maybe she would be able to convince her…”

Unfortunately, this is the conversation I overheard the other day when I was waiting in line for a cab. I could not help it, really.

What could I do, right? They were standing right there beside me and they sure weren't whispering!

As I stood there, balancing on my increasingly throbbing feet and getting restless by the second; trying to focus on the book I had in my hand; I could not stop smiling in my heart, thinking of how adorable these two teenagers who were, 'plotting' to get 'outside help' in persuading their mum to get them that 'something' they so much desired.

Sweet, you agree?

It was really smart of them to get a third party to help them out.

They reminded me of what W. Clement Stone once said,

Tell everyone what you want to do and someone will want to help you do it.

Okay, perhaps they don't have to tell everyone, but they sure knew the right person to tell, do you agree?

Suddenly the whole conversation reminded me of this very hadith of our beloved Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), I read some time ago,

"Fasting will intercede for a person on the Day of Judgment, and will say, "O Lord, I prevented him from his food and physical desires during the day, so let me intercede for him." (Ahmad)

Subhan Allah!

When I first read this hadith, I had to read and re-read it over and over again.
First of all, I got very fascinated with the thought that fasting could actually act like a 'person' simply because 'it' could do something for me.

Interesting, huh?

Just look at the hadith above… so let me intercede for him… 'it' says…

So, truly, 'fasting' can in fact stand in front of Allah, the Lord of the worlds, on the Day when the sun is just above my head, when the first person ever created, Prophet Adam (peace be upon him), to the last person born will be standing there watching the 'Big Screen TV,' when the Big Weighing Scale will be used for the first time ever; and when I will be sweating and shivering waiting for my deeds to be weighed!

And what would 'fasting' be doing?

It would be there to intercede, negotiate, plead, beg, arbitrate, appeal, request, plea, supplicate and beseech on my behalf to Allah, our Lord, subhan Allah…

The thoughts of having my very own Ally McBeal team members standing there interceding for me during the Day of Judgment delighted my heart.

I knew deep inside that I would be needing all the help that I could get on this Day as the words of Allah from His Noble Book made me tremble to the core in this verse below,

(What will convey to you what the Day of Judgment is? Again! What will convey to you what the Day of Judgment is? It is the Day when a self will have no power to help any other self in any way. The command that Day will be Allah's alone.) (Al-Infitar 82:17-19)

Astaghfirullah…. Ya Allah…

Imagine what Allah has just told us.

No self, no person and absolutely no one would be able to help anyone else during this time. I would not be able to help my darling mother and she sure would not be able to help me despite how much she loves me. And the same goes with my dad, my brothers and sisters, my family, my friends- everyone is on their own on this day…

Scary, you agree, my brothers and sisters?

So, isn't it great to know that right now, today, in this noble month of Ramadan, we are able to actually prepare 'someone' to help us out during that day? 'Someone' who can stand by us, and become our spokesperson, pleading our case before the Almighty?

Absolutely! Alhamdulillah…

I am now so determined more than ever to prepare my much-needed team of lawyers for my future use, insha Allah!

Are you excited too?

But then, a question popped into my head (as always). If my fasting could do that for me on the Day of Judgment, have I done 'it' justice by performing my fasting in the best possible manner?

I mean when I fast, have I refrained from only eating food and drinking? Have I also put in efforts to make my fasting more beautiful by participating in a lot of charity, taking care of my words, exercising patience, being kind and helpful to the elderly and children, fulfilling the needs and requests of people who asked me for help, taking care of where my eyes decide to wander around, reading the noble Book and reducing the burden of the poor, orphan, weak and the needy?

Ya Allah, this is truly something I need to reflect on…

And while I am doing that, I remembered this one anon quote I truly love that says:

I CAN is 100 times more important than IQ

So, can I make my fasting more beautiful?

Of course I can, if I want to, insha Allah!

What about you my brothers and sisters? Would you like to beautify your fasting too?

Would you like your striking and perfect 'lawyer' to stand there between you and your Creator, asking Allah for His mercy on the Day where all your deeds will be put on a scale; and the Day after which marks the beginning of your eternal life?

Think about it.

And you know, once I asked a wise man to think about it and he told me this:

“What is there to think about? The time to think about it is over. Now is the time to just do it.”

And you know what?

He is perfectly right.

Totally!

Ramadan Poster: Motivational and Inspirational Poster on the Dos and Donts during the Month of Ramadan Mubarak

Bismillah

As Salaamu 'alaykum and peace to all,

Ramadan Poster: Motivational and Inspirational Poster on the Dos and Donts during the Month of Ramadan Mubarak

Today morning, after fulfilling the commitment of my Daily Quranic Recitation I made to myself on Sheikh Yusuf Estes's Ramadan Reminder's website , I decided to go thru my emails and found one poster about Ramadan.

This poster was created by IslamicPosters, alhamdulillah. May Allah reward them abundantly for designing such interesting poster, ameen.

It has the basic reminders of the Do's and Don'ts of Ramadan, and the first thought that crossed my mind was the words of Napoleon Bonaparte who once said,

“A picture is worth a thousand words.”

Indeed, this Ramadan Highway Code Poster truly reflects that- 1000 words worth!

Curious?

Here, let me share it with you.

As I looked at the poster, two of the images reminded me of the words of our beloved Prophet (saw) when he said,

“Whosoever does not leave bad words and bad actions, Allah does not care if he leaves his food and drink.” (Al-Tirmidhi 641)

SubhanAllah, again I tell myself that this Ramadan must be THE time for me to discipline myself and change whatever needed to be changed, inshaAllah.

Indeed, I like what Price Pritchett said,

'Change always comes bearing gifts.'

And I know that I will await eagerly for my gifts that might come with the changes that I plan to make this Ramadan, inshaAllah!

Would you like to receive the gifts too, my brothers and sisters? If yes, what are the changes that you plan to make? :))

Think About It.

Favourite Videoclip: Ramadan Lectures : Motivational Lectures Upon Arrival of Month of Fasting Ramadan Kareem

Bismillah

As Salaamu 'alaykum and peace to all,

Favourite Video: Collection of Ramadan Lectures : Motivational Lectures on Month of Fasting Ramadan Kareem

We are well going into the end of second week of Ramadan, alhamdulillah.

But, I can't help but to think how fast time flies. Honestly, I really do not want Ramadan to end, ever.

Unfortunately, instead of moving as slow as the sloth, time seems to be running like a cheetah!

I remembered Henry Austin Dobson once said,

Time goes, you say? Ah no!
Alas, Time stays, we go.

I have never thought that it is actually me who is slowly and surely ticking away day by day, while time, will remain in existance for eternity... SubhanAllah...

Something to think about, you agree?

So, today, I again, reminded myself of His verse,

"Ramadan is the month during which the Quran was revealed, providing guidance for the people, clear teachings, and the statute book. Those of you who witness this month shall fast therein. Those who are ill or traveling may substitute the same number of other days. GOD wishes for you convenience, not hardship, that you may fulfill your obligations, and to glorify GOD for guiding you, and to express your appreciation." (2:185)

Indeed, Ramadan is the month that has in it offerings no other months can offer- His guidance, forgiveness, blessings and mercy.

It is also a month of great discipline, a month of changing behaviour and habits, a month of strethening our willpower and a month of a test of our ability to commit to something that is not easy to do.

In short, it is the time for us all to do some inner reflection, increase our devotion to God, and practise self-control- maybe some kind of tuning up, if you like.

Therefore, I have in this post a few good lectures about Ramadan delivered by excellent scholars inshaAllah, so that you and me can learn more about this Holy Month, and may these lectures serve as excellent reminders for us all, ameen and inshaAllah.

Ramadan Message from President Obama to Muslims in America and The World: Motivational and Inspirational Message about Respecting Other's Belief

Bismillah

As Salaamu 'alaykum and peace to all,

Ramadan Message from President Obama to Muslims in America and The World : Motivational and Inspirational Message about Respecting Other's Beliefs and Values

Today, Saturday 22nd August 2009, marks the 1st Ramadan 1430H for Muslims worldwide, alhamdulillah.

And subhanAllah, when I woke up for sahur, I heard the most beautiful and soothing sound in the world (for me, that is!)- the sound of the rain! :)

Yup, I absolutely and totally love the sound of the rain. Somehow, I feel it speaks to my heart...

John Ruskin once said,

Sunshine is delicious, rain is refreshing, wind braces us up, snow is exhilarating; there is really no such thing as bad weather, only different kinds of good weather.

And I totally agree with him.

As I listened to the sound of the rain, suddenly a thought came to me.

Could the rain, that had started on the eve of Ramadan and lasted the whole night till early this morning, symbolically mean that 'it' was sent to do some kind of 'cleaning up' in preparation of the arrival of our special guest- The Holy Month of Ramadan?

Could it?

SubhanAllah, that thought really delighted my heart!

It truly does! What do you think, my friends?

Well, talking about preparing the arrival of Ramadan, as I was searching on YouTube, looking for some video of recitation of Surahs by prominent recitors, I accidentally found this heartwarming video.

It was a Ramadan Address made by President Obama, acknowledging the arrival of Month of Ramadan, the meaning it brings for Muslims and non-Muslims, the benefits of Ramadan and White House's view on Muslims, specifically and humanity, at large. alhamdulillah.

I love it when someone takes the effort to extend their hands to another person.

It simply reminded me of the words of Allah in His Book,

"O humankind We [God] have created you male and female, and made you into communities and tribes, so that you may know one another. Surely the noblest amongst you in the sight of God is the most godfearing of you. God is All-knowing and All-Aware" (Quran 49:13).

So, do you want to know what President Obama said?

Here is the YouTube Video. I hope you enjoy his message, inshaAllah

The floor is yours, Mr. President...

I have to say this: Thank you for reaching out President Obama. Your efforts are highly appreciated and we look forward to more and better understanding between and among the citizens of the world, inshaAllah (God Willing)!

Salaams and Peace to all.

Friday Reflection: Secret One from Life is an Open Secret Ramadan Special-A Pillar of Faith: Motivational Story about Fasting during Ramadan

Bismillah

As Salaamu 'alaykum and peace to all,

Friday Reflection: 1st Ramadan 1430H Special Treat: Secret One from Life is an Open Secret- A Pillar of Faith: Motivational Story about Fasting during Ramadan as One of the Pillars in Islam

Knock, knock...

Who's there?

This is Ramadan...

Ramadan Who?

Ramadan Mubarak!

*Giggle*... wait a minute, am I the only one laughing here?

Ok, ok. By now, I am sure you guys already know that I can't quite tell jokes, but, hey, it sure didnt hurt to try, right? :))

But jokes aside, truly, I am so excited that Ramadan is finally here, alhamdulillah.

And I am thankful to Allah to allow me to taste the sweetness and delightfulness of this wonderous month again, this year, alhamdulillah.

Ya Rabb... Indeed, I am your thankful servant.

As a special treat for my beloved friends, brothers and sisters, I have in today's post Secret One (out of 25 Secrets) from my latest book- Life is an Open Secret- Ramadan Special.

If you like the story, please forward and share this story (without changing anything or any part of it and plus include my blog link and copyright too!) with your friends and family, inshaAllah. I pray that Allah accepts our deeds, and have mercy on us, and forgive us for all our wrongdoings this Ramadan, ameen.

My gift to you...

Secret One: A Pillar of Faith

From Small Beginnings, Come Great Things - American Proverb

That day I was admiring a beautiful house near my sister's place. The design of the house was breathtaking, subhan Allah.

Although I don't have any inkling whatsoever about architectural design, I do love houses, buildings and structures that reflect great creativity and genius. I could not begin to imagine the sheer hard work the designers and architects must have put into the design.

Thomas Disch once said,
Creativity is the ability to see relationships where none exist.

And I totally agree with Mr. Thomas here. This house I am appreciating has a perfect combination of classic, ancient and gothic with a touch of modernity in it, subhan Allah.

I chuckled at the thought of my very best effort in designing a house: a square box with a roof and chimney and a few squared windows and one door, with a sun coming out from behind it!

Got the picture?

So, obviously, I truly appreciate talents of people who can design such a strikingly beautiful house.

But then I got curious. Despite its gorgeousness and majestic outlook, the house was empty. I mean, it looked as if it had been left empty for years. The garden is full of weeds growing as tall as a 9 year old, cobwebs were everywhere, the main gate was all rusty and most windows were broken too.

It was then my dad told me that the house was empty for a reason.

“What's the reason, dad?” I asked him

“Well, it seemed that when the house was being built, the owner refused to follow the advice that it should not be three-storeys high as the ground it was built on was kind of soft. And if he still wanted to do so, he would have to build a stronger foundation for the house and use the right kind of piling as pillars. But he refused to listen and built the house his way anyway. And now, the house is not safe to live in.”

“Wow, what a shame and a waste of money!” I couldn't believe my ears, shaking my head in disbelief.

The owner must have lost hundreds of thousands of his hard earned money. Poor him…

As I reflected on that incident later in the day, it suddenly dawned upon me the words of our beloved Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) who once said,

"Islam is built on five (pillars): the testimony that there is no god except Allah and that Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah; establishing prayer; paying zakah; fasting Ramadan; and Hajj to the House (the Ka`bah)." (Al-Bukhari)

SubhanAllah!

Don't I see that my beautiful religion too, has pillars and foundations of its own which I should adhere and follow? The pillars that have been identified by my Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) about 1429 years ago, and they still hold true until today.

And he (peace be upon him) had left us these pillars for one reason- the very soil also known as life that we all stand (live) on is, yes, you got it- soft!

Soft as in unstable, risky, dangerous, uneven, unbalanced, uncertain, unsafe and could be hazardous to our lives.

And if we failed to build the right kind of pillars as the foundation to our home (a.k.a. life) here on this earth, we might just end up like that wasted house- all beautiful but of no use to anyone!

Yikes! Na`udhbillaahi min dhalik!

Surely, that is not something that we want to become, you agree?

I, for one, truly do not want to be like that wasted house. Nope, I really don't.

Really. Really. Really.

In fact, I want to built a 'house' that I could live in happily and peacefully; where others could come visit without worrying if the roof is going to fall on them or the floor is going to suck them in. I want to build a place where people could call it a happy home and where others and I can find solace in, inshaAllah.

And as we all know, in just a few days, we shall be given a chance to strengthen the current foundation to our houses using one of the mentioned pillars- the pillar of fasting in the great month of Ramadan!

He, the Almighty has special instruction for us during this month when He said in one of His Verses,

(The month of Ramadan in which was revealed the Quran, a guidance for mankind, and clear proofs of the guidance, and the Criterion (of right and wrong). And whosoever of you is present, let him fast the month, and whosoever of you is sick or on a journey, (let him fast the same) number of other days. Allah desires for you ease; He desires not hardship for you; and (He desires) that ye should complete the period, and that ye should magnify Allah for having guided you, and that peradventure ye may be thankful.) (Al-Baqarah 2: 185)

Yes, that is what we should be doing this month of Ramadan, you agree?

Fasting.

Thinking about this special month made me become excited suddenly. Why shouldn’t I, right? This is literally the only opportunity that I have to strengthen this one pillar as it only comes once a year and it only lasts for 30 days!

30 days?

Yes, 30 days, my brothers and sisters. Only for 30 days.

We are given about 30-days to do whatever we should do to ensure that this one pillar becomes so strong that it would be able to withstand whatever hurricane, tsunami and turbulence that might come our way for the next 326 days (365 minus 30 days) until the next round of 'piling' comes- if we live that long, that is!

Oppss… such is the reality of life, huh?

And you know something else?

One of the best part of having Ramadan with us is this,

“When Ramadan comes, the gates of mercy are opened and the gates of Hell are shut, and the devils are put in chains.” (Al-Bukhari and Muslim)

Yup, all the gates of mercy are opened, my friends! Opened!

Isn't that amazing?

I began wondering, what is behind those gates of mercy. Do you wonder too, my brothers and sisters?

One thing I believe is that it contains a gazillion times of a gazillion things called mercy that we cannot imagine having, right?

Much like what the gates of banks would have what behind it. Yup, you got it. MONEY! And the gates of libraries would have books and the gates of schools would have children inside them, right?

Subhan Allah…

So, I know that I must take plan my Ramadan well this year, inshaAllah as His Gate of Mercy is wide open for me, Ameen…

And coincidently, about a week back, I received something from a friend called 'Ramadan Planner'. It has a 30-day plan where we can insert / change / edit whatever information according to our fancy. And this Ramadan Planner is sure able to help us plan our recitation of His Book, our remembrance of His Names, our Charity to give away, our obligatory prayers time and supererogatory Prayers like the Tarawih Prayers and many other good deeds we plan to do during this Holy month of Ramadan- all charted in this wonderful planner.

Nevertheless, I will always remember what Will Rogers once said,
Plans get you into things, but you got to work your way out.

I surely do! And my dearest brothers and sisters- you know, you have to, too! So, let us all do it together then, you agree?

Let us start planning!

Ramadan Kareem to everyone!

Favourite Videoclip: Firstday Fast by Farid AlHadi: Motivational Clip about Fasting First Day

Bismillah

As Salaamu 'alaykum and peace to all,

Favourite Clip: Firstday Fast by Farid AlHadi: Motivational Videoclip about Fasting First Day

In just two days, inshaAllah, we will be welcoming an honorable guest- The Month of Ramadan.

And you know what? I am so excited by just the thought of it. I truly am!

Now, can I ask you a question?

What would be the first thing that crossed our mind by the very mention of Ramadan?

Yup, you got it- fasting!

And what would the first thing that we think about by the mention of the word fasting?

You got it again- absolutely NO food and drinks, right?

But of course, most of us understand that fasting is not merely refraining from eating food and drinking fluid, but, it also means refraining from uttering words that are non-useful, controling our gaze and; doing loads and loads of good deeds (among others of course), you agree?

Having said that, yesterday, I came across this funny videoclip about First Day of Ramadan which I feel had reflected so well on how many of us view this holy month of Ramadan.

Personally, although I think the lyrics is hilarious, it is full of advice, subhanAllah... and more importantly, it actually made me think and reflect.

So, I have decided to share it with you. And I hope you liked it as much as i do!

Firstday Fast by Farid AlHadi

Good? You liked it? I think he tells it as it is, you agree?

The fact of the matter is simple- fasting is so significant that our beloved Prophet Muhammad once said,

Narrated Abu Huraira : The Prophet said, '(Allah said), 'Every good deed of Adam's son is for him except fasting; it is for Me. and I shall reward (the fasting person) for it.' Verily, the smell of the mouth of a fasting person is better to Allah than the smell of musk.' (Book #72, Hadith #811)

Subhanallah, imagine that my brothers and sisters.

Being a person who absolutely love the smell of musk, I cannot help but get very excited over the thought of having my mouth smell like musk as compared to the usual minty-smell!

SubhanAllah!

Exciting, isnt it?

So, let us all welcome this wonderful month of Ramadan with the standing ovation it truly deserves!

Let's!

Zabrina A. Bakar...

..... loves what Dwight D.E. said,'What counts is not necessarily the size of the dog in the fight - it's the size of the fight in the dog.' Woof!

..... ponders upon what A.G. Bell once said, 'Concentrate all your thoughts upon the work at hand. The sun's rays do not burn until brought to a focus'. How true...

..... agrees with Einstein, “If A equals success,then the formula is A equals X plus Y and Z,with X being work,Y play,and Z keeping yr mouth shut”

..... cannot help but agree with Vince Lombardi when he said, "The difference between a successful person and others is not a lack of strength but lack of will"

..... absolutely loves what Harvey C. Fruehauf once said, ' There's no ceiling on effort!'. How true!

Hope you liked them all!

The Story of An-80year old Grandmother- Motivational Story about Achieving Dreams

Bismillah

As Salaamu 'alaykum and peace to all,

The Story of An-80 year old Grandmother- Motivational Story about Achieving Dreams

That day I was listening to my iPod while doing some walking early in the morning. And I decided that beautiful morning to listen to Jack Canfield and Mark Victor Hansen, the Bestselling Authors of Chicken Soup of the Soul book series.

I like what Mark Twain once said,

“Really great people make you feel that you, too, can become great.”

SubhanAllah... They do, dont they?

And in one of the 'chapters', Jack and Mark were talking about the importance in writing down our Top 100 goals/dreams/wishes that we want to achieve during our lifetime.

The moment they say a-100, I was like, what? A-100? Do I have even 80-goals/wishes? What about 50? Maybe 30? Perhaps 10? Yeah, sure, I have 10!

That's when I realized how pathetic my 'Dream List' is...

Didnt Allah said in His Book, the Holy Quran,

"And your Lord says, 'Call on Me: and I will answer you,'" (40:60)

So, why am I not 'calling' Him enough? Why havent I been thinking of the many reasons of why I should be 'calling' Him, right?

And not only that Allah has promised to answer our calls, but, our beloved Prophet Muhammad also said that while we were doing all the 'callings' to our Lord, He will reward the 'calls' too! Yup, just look at the hadith below,

An-Nu'man ibn Bashir reported that the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said, "Supplication is worship itself." [Abu Dawud and at-Tirmidhi]

SubhanAllah...amazing isn't it? To be guaranteed that Allah will answer our supplications and not only that, we are also rewarded just because we supplicate!

Ya Allah, indeed You are Al-Raheem and Al-Rahman...

Let me share with you a story about one amazing grandmother, Umm Saalih who has a dream and followed thru her dream of memorizing the Quran even though it seems kinda impossible at first...

As Read by Dr. Saleh as Saleh

Many all over the world memorize the Qur'aan, and it is not strange to see the youth memorizing the Noble Qur'aan and an early age. Al-Hamdulillaah, the One who made the Qur'aan easy for remembrance, had made it easy for Umm Saalih age 82. In an interview with Umm Saalih, she was asked the following questions:

Q1: "What was the reason that drove you to memorize the Qur'aan after so many years?"

She said, "I always hoped to memorize the Qur'aan from the time I was young. My father always used to invoke Allaah for me to become one of the memorizers of the Qur'aan, like himself and like the elder brothers of my family who memorized it. So I memorized in the beginning about three parts and then after I completed the age of thirteen, I got married and became busy with the household and the children. After I had seven children, my husband died. They (the children) were all young so I took the time to raise them and educate them, and then after they grew up and got married, I had more time for myself. Therefore, the first thing I directed myself to focus upon was the Qur'aan.

Q2: "Tell us about your journey with the Noble Qur'aan."

She said, "My younger daughter was going to high school and she was the closest of my children to me and the most beloved, because she stayed with me after her older sisters got married and got busy with their lives, and because she was a quiet girl, upright, loving, and good. In addition, she was interested in learning the Noble Qur'aan, and her teachers encouraged her.

Furthermore, she was very enthusiastic and always told me of many women who were driven by this great motivation to memorize the Qur'aan, and this is where I started."

Q3: "Tell me about your way of memorization."

She said, "We assigned ten verses (meaning her and her daughter who was going to high school). So each day after Asr, we used to sit together. She reads and I repeat after her three times. Then she explains the meaning to me, and after a while, she repeats that three times. On the next morning, she repeats them to me before she goes to school.

She recorded also the recitations of Ash Shaykh al Husary, Rahimuhullaah, repeating each verse three times and thus I continued to listen most of the time. Therefore, the next day we would go to the next ten verses if my memorization was good. Otherwise, we would postpone taking additional verses until the day after. Moreover, we assigned the day of Friday to review the memorizations of the entire week. And this was the journey from the beginning."

Then she said, "Over four years and a half, I memorized twelve juz" according to the way I described to you. Then this young daughter got married. When her husband knew of our task concerning the memorization, he rented a house close to me, close to my house, so that he could allow the continuation of the memorization. In addition, he, May Allah reward him used to encourage us and sometimes sit with us listening, explaining and teaching.

Then after three years of her marriage, my daughter got busy with the children and the household and our schedule was interrupted, but that did not make her give up. To the contrary, she sensed that my eagerness for the memorization was still established so she looked for a special good teacher to continue the journey under her supervision. So, I completed the memorization by the success of Allaah and my daughter is still working to finish the memorization of the Glorious Qur'aan. She has a little left, In Shaa Allaah Ta'aala.

Q4: "This motivation of yours, did it have an effect on other women around you?"

She said, "It really had a good strong effect. My daughters and stepdaughters were all encouraged and worked on learning and teaching the Qur'aan to their children and learning it themselves.

Q5: "After finishing the Noble Qur'aan, don't you think about working on memorizing hadith?"

She said, "Now I have memorized ninety hadith and In Shaa Allaah I will continue the journey. I depend, in my memorization, upon the tapes and upon the Qur'aan radio station. At the end of each week, my daughter comes and checks for me the memorization of three hadith, and I am trying now to memorize more.

Q6: "Over this period of memorization of the Qur'aan, did your life change? Was it affected in one way or another?"

She said, "Yes, I went through a major change and I tried always, all praise is due to Allaah, to obey Allaah before I started the memorization. However, after I started the task of memorization, I began to feel a self-comfort, a great self-comfort and all worries began to move away from me. I even reached the stage of freeing myself from all these excessive worries concerning fearing for the children and their affairs, and my morale was boosted.

I had a noble objective to work for and this is a great Ni'mah (Favor) from Allaah . upon me, since we know that some women, when they get old and they do not have a husband, and their children got married, may be destroyed by the empty time, thoughts, worries, and so forth. But, AlHamdulillaah, I didn't go through this and I made myself busy with a great task and a great objective.

Q7: "Didn't you think at one point, to join one of the circles focusing on teaching the Noble Qur'aan?"

The answer was, "Yes, some of the women suggested this to me, but I am a woman who got used to staying at home, and I don't like to go out everyday, and Al Hamdulillaah, my daughter sufficed me from all difficulty and I was so happy while I was learning from her. My daughter had set an example in goodness and righteousness which we rarely find in our days.

She started this task and journey with me while she was an adolescent and this is a critical age many people complain of. She used to pressure herself so that she could have spare time to teach me, and she used to teach me with kindness and wisdom. Her husband was a good help to her and he exerted a lot of effort. I ask Allaah . to give them success and to bring their children up on uprightness."

Q8: "What do you say to a woman of your age who wishes to learn and memorize the Qur'aan yet she is worried about it and feeling unable to?"

She said, "I say to her there their shall be no despair with the firm, sincere and truthful determination. Begin with sincerity, firm determination and dependence on Allaah at each time. And remember that at this age you should have the time for yourself. However, do not use your time to only go out or to sleep and so forth. Rather, busy yourself with righteous work.

Q9: "Now what would you say to a woman who is still young? What would you advise her?"

She, may Allaah preserve her, said: "Preserve Allaah and He will preserve you. Make use of the favor of Allaah bestowed upon you from health and ways and means of comfort. Use that to memorize the Book of Allaah. This is the light which enlivens your heart, your life and your grave after you die.

And if you have a mother then exert the effort to teach her, and there is no better favor upon a mother than one of her righteous children aiding her to be close to Allaah."

Presented on the 1st of Muharram 1426, Feb 10th 2005. Originally published in Ad-Da'wah Magazine, no.1552, 17th of Rabee' Al-Awwal 1417,corresponding to Aug 1, 1996.

SubhanAllah, this story reminded me of His Words,

"And in truth We have made the Qur'aan easy to remember; but is there any that remembers?" (Surah 54: 32)

So, I ask myself this question. If an 80-year old grandmother has the energy and commitment to achieve her dreams no matter how long it takes, no matter what barriers came up, can't I do the same too?

Can you, my dearest brothers and sisters?

Think About It.

Favourite Clip- Your Very Best from Facing The Giant Movie- Motivational and Inspirational Videoclip about Giving Your Very Best Shot in What You Do

Bismillah

As Salaamu 'alaykum and peace to all,

Favourite Clip- Your Very Best from Facing The Giant Movie- Motivational and Inspirational Videoclip about Giving Your Very Best Shot in What You Do

That day I was on Youtube when I found this amazing videoclip entitled 'Your Very Best' from Facing the Giant movie that had given me goosebumps!

It is about giving our best in the task we are doing right now, and bringing down the walls of self-limitation we have in our heads.

I love it how the coach uses punch lines such as:

'Even if you can't, you promise to give me your very best, your very BEST!

'I want everything you got!'

'Keep going!

'Come on!'

'Give me more, give me MORE!'

'You can, you CAN!'

It reminded me of the Words of Allah, the Al Mighty when He promised,

'Whoever works righteousness, whether male or female, while he (or she) is a true believer (of Islâmic Monotheism) verily, to him We will give a good life (in this world with respect, contentment and lawful provision), and We shall pay them certainly a reward in proportion to the best of what they used to do (i.e. Paradise in the Hereafter)' [Surah An-Nahl (The Bees)16:97]

Indeed, Allah the One Free from All Imperfections, has said the reward of our actions will be directly related to the effort we put in!

SubhanAllah, this verse truly made me think that day of the type of efforts that I put in into everything I do...

Have I been giving my very best? Or not?

But enough about me, I want to share this special videoclip with all of you out there. So, here goes my friends. Enjoy the videoclip and let us learn from it!

The Story of A Rider and An Old Man- Motivational Story about Kindness and Compassion

Bismillah

As Salaamu 'alaykum and peace to all,

The Story of a Rider and an Old Man- Motivational Story about Kindness and Compassion

That day, I was walking on the street and was about to cross the road. On the other side of the road, I saw a young man holding the hands of a physically-challenged man, getting him ready to cross the road too. Looking at both of them, I cannot help but smile.

SubhanAllah, I absolutely love watching the display of human kindness. It always made my heart feel all warm inside. The goodness shown by this person towards another being somehow has such great effect on me. It made me feel good. Really good.

Later in the evening, as I reflected on that incident, I realized something strange.

Even though I was watching in a distance the act of kindness of this man, and has no part in it, somehow, I felt very happy inside, as if the one receiving his kindness is me!

How strange is that, right, my brothers and sisters?

That thought kept me thinking.

If by just simply watching the act of kindness of others could make me feel happy and warm inside, imagine the happiness of the person who was actually receiving such kindness!

Come to think of it, was there like a 3-way effects from 1 act of kindness?

It somehow makes the you (the helper), he (the one being helped) and them (the ones watching the act of kindness displayed) feel so good inside!

It is sure a great way to spread joy and happiness in this world. Totally!

SubhanAllah... Amazing, you agree?

No wonder our beloved Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) stressed so much on the importance of being kind to others so much so that he (pbuh) once said,

"Allah is not kind to him who is not kind to people."

Hadith - Tirmidhi, Saheeh: Related by Aboo Daawood (no. 4177) and at-Tirmidhee (no. 1877). It was declared authentic by Imaam al-Albaanee in as-Saheehah (no. 417):

Nauzubillah....
Wow, how scary is that?

The thought of losing Allah's kindness scared the heck out of me! Yup, it does...

I remembered a quote by Charles H. Spurgeon who once said,

A good character is the best tombstone.

I think he was right. I reflected on the recent death of the King of Pop Michael Jackson, and one of the things that was highlighted about him during the memorial service was- yes, you guessed it- his kindness towards the unfortunate!

Let me share with you a story about a rider and an old man I once read.

It was a bitter, cold evening. The old man waited for a ride across the river. The wait seemed endless. His body became numb and stiff from the frigid north wind. He heard the faint, steady rhythm of approaching hooves galloping along the frozen path.

He watched as several horsemen approached and left without acknowledging his presence. Finally, the last rider neared the spot where the old man sat like a snow statue.

As this one drew near, the old man said, “Sir, would you mind giving an old man a ride to the other side? There doesn't appear to be a passageway by foot.” Reining his horse, the rider replied, “Sure. Hop aboard.”

Seeing the old man was unable to lift his half-frozen body from the ground, the horseman dismounted and helped the old man onto the horse. The horseman took the old man all the way to his home, which was just a few miles away.

As they neared the tiny cottage, the horseman inquired, “I noticed that you let several other riders pass by, then when I came, you immediately asked for a ride. I'm curious why, on such a bitter winter night; you would wait and ask the last rider. What if I had refused and left you there?”

The old man lowered himself from the horse, looked the rider straight in the eyes, and replied, “I've been around here for some time. I reckon I know people pretty good.”

He continued, “I looked into the eyes of the other riders and saw there was no concern for my situation. But when I looked into your eyes, kindness and compassion were evident. I knew that your gentle spirit would welcome the opportunity to give me assistance in my time of need.”

SubhanAllah, this story brings the quote 'Your eyes are the windows to your heart' a new meaning to me.

Needless to say, this story made me think hard that day. It is obvious that the kindness and gentleness a person has was reflected in his eyes.

I asked myself- what do my eyes reflects of when people look at me? Do they see kindness, gentleness, compassion and sympathy or resentment, hatred, bitterness and anger?

Astaghfirullah,
I need to do a lot of reflection today. I truly do...

What about you, my friends? Have you ever wondered how does your eyes reflects what is in your heart? How does others see you thru your eyes? Are you the type of person people would come for help, or they hated even the thought of asking help from you?

I promised myself today that inshaAllah, I will strive to be like the rider whose eyes so gentle and kind that a stranger felt at ease asking him for help. And because of that, this rider will always get the help he needed from Allah the Al Mighty as His promise in His Book,

"Those who are kind and considerate to Allah's creatures, Allah bestows His kindness and affection on them. Show kindness to the creatures on the earth so that Allah may be kind to you." (The Noble Qur'an - Al-Fath 48:29)

Don't we want to receive His kindness and affection, my brother and sisters?

I know I do!

And by just being kind to His creatures, we are well on our way to surely and definitely receive our Lord's kindness and affection, you agree?

Now, does that make you feel all happy inside? I sure do!
