Junior Splash Swim Competition - Inspirational Story as a Parent

Yesterday was an amazing day for Tariq. It was the day he truly learn what never say die means.

It was his very first swimming competition - The 2nd ASUM/NSC/Milo Junior Splash Swim Competition held in Melaka.

Tariq was the youngest competitor in the whole competition. Yet, many said he has inspired everyone there with his never say die spirit.

He jumped into the pool like any other just-turned-five-year-old would - legs in first!

He started with his freestyle strokes and his teammates were cheering for him.

Then it happened.

Half way across the pool, he changed his strokes from freestyle to breaststrokes. That was the sign that he is getting tired. And he slowed down. His movements become slower and slower as the seconds tick.

I hold my breathe. Couldn't move a single bit.

And the cheering slowly died down as we were becoming nervous. Does he have any energy left? Could he finish the race? Will he cry mid way? Will he quit middle of the pool?

Then suddenly Tariq began to make his freestyle strokes again. And the crowd erupted!!

The whole stadium cheered for him.

Go Tariq go!!
You can do it Tariq!!
Tariq!! Tariq!! Tariq!!
Swim Tariq Swim!!

Amongst the chanting and cheering that goes around the stadium.

And as Tariq approaching the finishing line, the crowd became rowdier and the clapping and cheering was amazing.

The moment Tariq hit the timer wall, the crowd erupted in joy!!

It was a moment of joy - shared by everyone there.

The youngest swimmer has shown what it meant to never say die. To keep going when the going got tough.

To never say die. To believe that you can do it. To finish a race.

Tariq didn't win the race but he break his personal best time. He beat himself. His personal best for 50m was 3mins 38 secs. And he did 2mins 23secs.

Well done Tariq! We are all so proud of you Alhamdulillah!!🎉🎊🎉🎊🎉🎊❤️❤️❤️
